O Ethics Committee for Research with Human Beings of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Suliocruz (CEP Fiocruz/IOC) accredited by National Research Ethics Committee (CONEP) in 1997, is administratively linked to the Vice-Directorate of Research, Technological Development and Innovation (VDPDTI) of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC) since 2011. The CEP has a consultative, deliberative and educational role, and acts in accordance with national legislation (Law 14.874 / 2024) and the guidelines of the National Health Council (CNS).
Its mission is to protect research participants and ensure that projects follow national and international ethical standards. The committee is made up of a multidisciplinary board that works voluntarily, without remuneration, to defend the interests of research participants in their integrity and dignity, becoming jointly responsible, together with the researcher in charge and the Institution, for ensuring the protection of participants.
All studies involving human beings must be submitted to the CEP/Conep System for ethical assessment via Platform Brazil before its execution.
