The Ethics Committee on the Use of Animals of the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (CEUA-IOC) is responsible for analyzing and qualifying experimental protocols aimed at research and teaching involving the use of animals in the IOC, as well as contributing to the definition of acceptable procedures, from an ethical point of view, in the laboratory and in the field. Instituted by the Resolution of the Deliberative Council of the IOC No. 11/2012 of December 05, 2012, Ordinance No. 052/2015-IOC of October 06, 2015, the Commission had its accreditation granted on February 10, 2015, process No. 01200.002529/2014-88 and CIAEP No. 01.0234.2014, granted by the National Council for the Control of Animal Experimentation (CONCEA).
THE CEUA-IOC is in charge of issuing opinions regarding the ethical aspects of all procedures involving animals in the IOC, as long as they contribute to the understanding of fundamental biological principles, with the aim of mitigating the impact of such activities on the well-being of animals.
The Commission plays an advisory and educational role, encouraging ethical reflection on scientific activity involving animals and its activities are guided by legislation and recommendations in force in the field, such as:
