The Holiday Courses at Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/Fiocruz) began in July 2007 with the proposal to develop scientific thinking in undergraduate students in the field of Health across the country. Offered by Graduate Programs Strict sensu Institute, courses take place twice a year, summer and winter editions, lasting one or two weeks, depending on the course chosen.
Classes have an emphasis on practical activities, improving basic laboratory notions and supporting the conceptualization and contextualization of the different subjects addressed, which are always of great relevance to the area of health research in Brazil, however, little discussed in undergraduate courses .
In 34 editions, the Vacation Courses of the IOC have already trained more than 3.000 students from public and private universities across Brazil. Upon completion of their studies, students who complete the activities with at least 75% attendance receive a certificate of participation.
Due to its importance as a disseminator of knowledge, the Vacation Courses gave rise to the Series on 'Cellular and Molecular Biology'. The first volume was inspired by training in 'Experimental Methods in the Study of Proteins'. The second volume was 'Immunopharmacology' and the third 'Cell Biology and Vesicle Traffic'.
:: [Summer 2026] Summer is also a time for learning.
