Bacterial Resistance to Antibiotics

Booklet developed by researchers from the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) clarifies the causes, consequences and the main ways to prevent the process of antibiotic resistance.

The emergence of 'superbugs', microorganisms resistant to most drugs available for treatment, is a phenomenon associated with the indiscriminate use of these drugs.

The material was elaborated from a simple and didactic language and is available for free download.

The project developed under the Graduate Program Strict sensu in Tropical Medicine IOC is authored by researcher Marise Dutra Asensi, head of the Hospital Infection Research Laboratory at the IOC, and the recent doctor from the Program, Caio Martins Aires, professor at the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid, in Rio Grande do Norte.
