Spaces and Infrastructure

Teaching at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) offers its students and teachers a complex with 17 classrooms, three laboratories for practical classes, two auditoriums and two computer rooms. All spaces for theoretical classes are equipped with datashow, computers, wireless internet, air conditioning and standardized chairs. Opening hours for use of the facilities are from 8 am to 17 pm and the administration of spaces is under the responsibility of the Academic Secretariat (Seac).

See the video below for more information about the spaces and infrastructure of Education in IOC:

Classrooms

The teaching activities of Instituto Oswaldo Cruz have gained, over the years, new spaces and facilities. However, in the Institute's teaching memory is the emblematic building of the Arthur Neiva Pavilion, built in the early 50s. A tiled panel, painted with blue shapes inspired by microorganisms, created by the landscaper Burle Marx, merges with the sky and frames the Pavilion, part of the institution's modernist complex. At the time, the Pavilion, also known as the Pavilion of Courses, housed the set of teaching activities at the Institute.

In 2012, the Expansion Module, attached to the Arthur Neiva Pavilion, was inaugurated as an addition to the Institute's Teaching spaces. The Module has 10 rooms, which hold between 20 and 25 people each. The students and teachers of the IOC have seven more classrooms distributed among the Arthur Neiva, Hélio and Peggy Pereira, Leônidas Deane, Carlos Chagas, Gomes de Faria and 108 Pavilions.

Laboratories

The teaching complex IOC It has three laboratories for practical classes that serve technical education and postgraduate courses. Lato sensu e Strict sensu🇧🇷 The teaching laboratories are part of the Institute's instrumental park and have equipment such as Electrophoresis, UV Transilluminator, Thermocycler, Microlamagi, Microwaves, Magnifying Glasses, Microscopes, 120 and 200 centrifuges, Spectrophotometers, Drying and sterilization ovens, Stirrers, Bain-marie , CO2 incubator, High definition image projectors, Inverted biological microscope with 20X and 40X phase, among others.

In March 2013, the instrumental park of Teaching IOC was increased with 20 new optical microscopes, which further modernized the Institute's practical activities, benefiting approximately 820 students. The equipment allows for more quality in the resolution of the images, helping in the identification and recognition of microorganisms and the analysis of tissue slides.

Auditoriums

The teaching activities of IOC have two auditoriums. The Emmanuel Dias auditorium, with capacity for 120 people, is located in the Arthur Neiva Pavilion. The Maria Deane auditorium, with 116 seats, is located in the Leônidas Deane Pavilion. The auditoriums have equipment and infrastructure for audio and video recording during events.

technological platforms

Another increment to Instituto Oswaldo Cruz's Teaching activities is access, for students and advisors, to Technological Platforms. The network has high-performance equipment for use in various scientific approaches.

IT Rooms

The Teaching of IOC provides its students and teachers with two computer rooms, with 14 and 10 computers each, which allow, for example, the development of Postgraduate Program activities Strict sensu in Computational Biology and Systems and Parasite Biology for courses in genomics, proteomics and bioinformatics, for example. In addition, 15 laptops are available for students to use during classes.

Libraries

The teaching activities of IOC use the F Libraries Networkiocruz, coordinated by the Institute of Scientific and Technological Communication and Information in Health (Icict), with a collection on topics related to Health Sciences. The Manguinhos Library (Library of Biomedical Sciences), the Network's main library, stands out in the dissemination and availability of its collection through a modern information system.
