Commemoration of the 122nd anniversary of the IOC

In the year that marks the 150th anniversary of the birth of Oswaldo Cruz, the celebrations for the anniversary of Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/Fiocruz) highlighted the legacy of the institutional patron with the theme 'IOC 122 years: Oswaldo lives'. After two years of remote celebrations due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the events were marked by emotion and the reaffirmation of the commitment to science for public health in Brazil. The sessions took place on May 25, 2022, an anniversary shared by IOC and by Fiocruz, and May 27, in a hybrid way, with activities on the F campusiocruz in Manguinhos, in Rio de Janeiro, and broadcast live on Canal do IOC on YouTube (www.youtube.com.br/canalioc)
The opening table brought together the director of the Institute, Tania Araujo-Jorge; the vice-president of Management and Institutional Development of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), Mario Moreira; and the representative of the Deliberative Council of the Fiocruz and director of the Institute of Technology in Immunobiologicals (Bio-Manguinhos/Fiocruz), Mauricio Zuma
The original character of IOC to different units of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) was brought by Zuma, who used the context of Bio-Manguinhos as an example. “The Oswaldo Cruz Institute has interactions with the entire Fiocroz. More than a partner, we are the result of IOC. Bio-Manguinhos was born from the Institute's Production Department", stated
The president of Fiocruz, Nísia Trindade Lima, who was unable to attend the event in person due to the meeting of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, Switzerland, left a message recorded on video, in which she exalted the theme of the celebration and pointed out the importance of the IOC for the foundation
The Institute's director began her lecture with a tribute to the victims of Covid-19 in Brazil and around the world. Tania Araujo-Jorge also recalled the professionals who worked and still work on the front lines of fighting the pandemic
The assistant deputy director of Research, Technological Development and Innovation, Luciana Garzoni, commented on the institutional cooperation mission, carried out between April 19 and 29, in which a delegation from the IOC visited important Portuguese and Spanish institutions

The closing of the commemorative activities was marked by the signing of the cooperation term between the Institute and the Fiocruz for the creation of the Inova Program IOC – Research and Innovation Networks. Signed between the IOC and the Fiocruz, through the Vice-Presidency of Production and Innovation in Health (VPPIS)
