Founded on May 25, 1900, the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/FiocOswaldo Cruz is one of the most traditional research centers in Brazil. It's a history that spans generations, made by people for people. Full of scientists inspired by its patron, Oswaldo Cruz.
In 125 years, there have been many contributions to public health and many lessons learned in facing great challenges.

- From 1900 to 1970, from the creation of the Institute until the closure of laboratories by the military dictatorship;
- From 1970 to 2020, from resistance and recovery to the emergence of Covid-19; and
- From 2020 to the present, from the lessons learned from the Covid-19 syndemic to the current moment, focusing on the science agenda for the future.
