The Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) carries out research, development and innovation in 66 Laboratories, generating knowledge about transmission, treatment, control and prevention of various diseases, such as AIDS, tuberculosis, malaria, yellow fever, dengue, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, leptospirosis, hepatitis, leprosy and meningitis, among others.
It also works in environmental studies, in drug prospecting and in the development of new vaccines, diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies, always with the aim of responding to the challenges of Brazilian public health.
With more than 380 researchers, the Institute has shown a solid growth in its scientific production and every six years a process of accreditation and re-accreditation of the Laboratories is carried out (click here to know), which evaluates scientific production, staff, guidance of graduate students, among other aspects.
