The Laboratory of Protozoology (LABPROTO) of the Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/Fiocruz) works to develop knowledge in the areas of immunoparasitology, cellular and molecular biology, treatment, diagnosis, ecoepidemiology, immunoregulation, immunogenetics, risk assessment and prevention, with an emphasis on protozoa of medical, human and veterinary interest, through scientific production, technological development, human resources training and scientific extension and dissemination, contributing to the SUS to improve health in Brazil.
It is a National Reference in the Histopathological Diagnosis of Canine Leishmaniasis, assisting in the implementation of control and surveillance measures for the disease by competent entities
The Protozoology Laboratory, accredited for the period 2023-2028, is the result of the merger of the Laboratories of Immunomodulation and Protozoology and of Toxoplasmosis and other Protozooses.
