Laboratory of Applied Genomics and Bioinnovations

The Laboratory of Applied Genomics and Bioinnovations (LAGABI) of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) operates at the frontier of scientific knowledge in the health area and proposes innovative models and methodologies that induce the use of scientific research results to contribute to the strengthening of the universal right to health in Brazil and are in line with the areas and lines of research da Fiocroz.

The methodological bases include aspects of biotechnological innovation with synthetic biology and the use of aptamers for theranostics of a wide spectrum of diseases, understanding and improving the activity of new drugs associated with the use of computational biology.

These analyzes help define the best therapeutic approach and evaluate potential side effects and synergistic effects of therapies. In addition, the evaluation of new biomarkers of clinical outcome in a personalized way, for patients with chronic and infectious diseases of priority for public health in Brazil.

The Laboratory also investigates the impact of the environment on human health, based on studies of applied genomics as an innovative method for understanding the complexity of ecosystems. A central axis based on studies of applied genomics associated with computational biology for the advancement in diagnosis, therapy and evaluation of ecosystems in Brazil.
