The Laboratory for the Evaluation and Promotion of Environmental Health (LAPSA) at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz), created in 1998, is dedicated to the study of the environment, from the cellular level to the relationships between human beings and other living organisms in the planetary ecosystem. In this way, its work in research, teaching, technological development and innovation takes place in the dimension of One Health (One Health).
LAPSA has a multi, inter and transdisciplinary team, made up of specialist biologists in different areas (parasitology, cellular and molecular biology, ecology, biological chemistry, public health, education), pharmacists, biomedical professionals, environmental managers, pedagogues, among others. The diversity of professionals guarantees a complex vision of the environmental dimension.
Diversity is also reflected in lines of research, technological innovation (patents and products) and national and international collaborations. With versatility and scope in the areas of health and environment, the studies are directed to the biodiversity and interactions of parasites, hosts, vectors, arthropods and cyanobacteria and their applications in the areas of Public and Environmental Health, aiming at diagnosis, control, monitoring, surveillance and actions of Health Promotion.
