The Interaction Biology Laboratory (LBI) of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz), created in 1998, in the development of research in experimental biology in the areas of immunopathology and immunoregulation of parasitic and bacterial infections, chronic, degenerative and genetic diseases.
LBI's mission is to generate, share and disseminate scientific knowledge and train qualified people for teaching, research and technology entities in the areas of Biological, Biomedical and Health Sciences. In particular, it contributes to the understanding of the immunopathogenesis of chronic Chagas cardiomyopathy and aims to develop new therapeutic targets for this clinical form of Chagas disease.
The Laboratory develops studies within the following lines of research:
1. Immune response and therapies in parasitic infections and chronic degenerative diseases;
2. Mental health and neurobiology: integrative vision and preclinical models in behavioral and neurodegenerative diseases;
3. Vaccines and immunotherapy for neglected and chronic degenerative diseases: development, study of the immune response and pre-clinical tests;
4. Scientific Education and Scientific Dissemination in Biology and Health.
