Environment and Health Bacteria Collection
The Environmental and Health Bacteria Collection (CBAS) at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) was started in 2007 with the aim of isolating, identifying and preserving bacteria from the soil of the Atlantic Forest. In 2009, other bacterial collections were integrated into the Collection.

CBAS currently has a diverse collection with 84 bacterial genera divided into five sub-collections:

• Collection of Bacteria from the Atlantic Forest;
• Blue Amazon Bacteria Collection;
• Environment and Health Vibrio Collection;
• Collection of Health Impact Bacteria;
• General Collection of Environmental Bacteria.

It is dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of cultures, the taxonomic characterization of bacterial strains, the supply and deposit of specimens, and the training of professionals and students.

CBAS is affiliated with the World Federation for Culture Collections (WFCC) under registration WDCM 958.
