Thymus Research Laboratory

The Thymus Research Laboratory (LPT) at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) has been active since 1990 in research, teaching, training resources and scientific dissemination in cellular biology of the immune system in its various aspects.

They are: physiology, investigating neurodevelopment and the immune system, neuroendocrine regulation of the thymus and muscle regeneration; non-infectious diseases such as malignancies and immunodeficiencies; infectious diseases such as oral Chagas disease, Zika virus infection, SARS-CoV2 and HIV; and neuroinflammation, such as in Alzheimer's disease and Autism and in neuromuscular diseases such as Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) and Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).

The central axis and lines of research, with the technologies employed, support the technological development front, recently explored by the LPT, in two ways: generation of inputs in the form of monoclonal antibodies and improved antibodies (one already with patent); and development of expertise to contribute institutionally to monitoring and coping with health emergencies.
