Laboratory of Taxonomy, Biochemistry and Bioprospecting of Fungi

The Laboratory of Taxonomy, Biochemistry and Bioprospection of Fungi (LTBBF) at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) has been active since 1922 in basic and applied research, teaching, training of human resources and technological development in the areas of taxonomy, biochemistry, molecular biology and bioprospecting of fungi.

His lines of research involve the identification and characterization of fungal virulence factors, the investigation of new chemotherapeutic and diagnostic targets, the assessment of ambient air quality, as well as the development of experimental models for virulence studies of pathogenic fungi.

The Laboratory houses the century-old Collection of Filamentous Fungal Cultures of the IOC (CCFF), conservation center ex situ of biodiversity and a source of strategic resources for the development of research in science, technology and innovation.
