Laboratory of Respiratory Viruses, Exanthematics, Enteroviruses and Viral Emergencies

The Laboratory of Respiratory Viruses, Exanthematics, Enteroviruses and Viral Emergencies (LVRE) of the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) has scientific expertise, historical experience and recognized quality in the context of viruses associated with outbreaks, epidemics and health emergencies, contemplated in international programs, such as SARS-CoV-2, Influenza, MERS-CoV and other respiratory viruses, exanthematous viruses, polio and other enteroviruses, MPOX and Ebola. 

Currently, the Laboratory is accredited as a Regional Reference for Measles and Rubella by the World Health Organization (WHO), a National Reference by the Ministry of Health, and as a National Reference Center in Influenza with the Ministry of Health and WHO. The Laboratory is also a National Reference for the Diagnosis of Poliomyelitis and other Enteroviruses.

The Respiratory Virus, Exanthematics, Enterovirus and Viral Emergencies Laboratory, accredited for the period 2023-2028, is the result of the merger of the Respiratory Virus and Measles and Enterovirus Laboratories.
