The second day (06) of activities of the 2nd act of the Symposium IOC 125 years saw the presentation of new civil servants approved in the F competitioniocruz 2023-2024.
The successful candidates were received and greeted by the director, Tania Cremonini de Araujo-Jorge, by the director of Reference Laboratories, Outpatient Clinics and Biological Collections, Eduardo de Mello Volotão, and by the Director of Education, Norma Brandão.
With the theme 'Oswaldo Lives in the new candidates', the initiative included a presentation by 13 employees approved to work in laboratories and sectors of the IOC. Other presentations will be held soon.

Fernanda Oliveira, approved for the 'Public Health Epidemiology' profile. She will work in the Laboratory of Epidemiology of Congenital Malformations. A native of the Jequitinhonha Valley, she is a public health specialist with a master's degree in Public Health and a PhD in Epidemiology. She intends to advocate for more accessible education and spaces for the production of scientific knowledge, committed to addressing social inequalities and health inequities. |

Irys Gonzalez, approved for the 'Taxonomy of microorganisms with an emphasis on bacteria of health importance and curation of microbiological collections' profile, is a biologist specializing in Microbiology, with a PhD in Biotechnology from the University of São Paulo. She worked at the Center for Molecular Biology and Microbiology at the São Paulo Zoo and as curator of the Microbiological and Genetic Collection of Brazilian Biomes. She will work in the Laboratory of Bacteriology Applied to One Health and Antimicrobial Resistance. |

With a degree in Social Sciences and a master's and doctorate in Anthropology, he said he plans to work in two areas: critical digital discourse analysis and a digital literacy observatory. |

She intends to study the action of entomopathogenic fungi in the biological control of mosquito vectors. She has a degree in Pharmacy-Biochemistry from São Paulo State University "Júlio de Mesquita Filho" and a master's and doctorate in BiocSciences and Biotechnology Applied to Pharmacy from the São Paulo State University. |

Biologist with a master's degree in Parasitic Biology from IOC/Fiocruz and a PhD in Ecology and Evolution from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ). He plans to develop neural networks to predict dengue fever in Brazil. He will work at the Interdisciplinary Laboratory of Entomological Surveillance in Diptera and Hemiptera. |

Danielly Moreira, a native of Duque de Caxias, Rio de Janeiro, said she dreamed of being a scientist since she was 8 years old. After qualifying for the 'Mycology Applied to Health' profile, she will work in the Laboratory of Taxonomy, Biochemistry, and Fungal Bioprospecting. She is a biologist with a master's degree in Clinical Research in Infectious Diseases and a PhD in Parasitic Biology. She plans to conduct research and become a public health professional capable of communicating with the public, bringing science closer to society. |

Victor Ennes Vidal, approved for the 'Biochemistry, Cellular Biology, and Molecular Biology of Parasites of Public Health Interest' profile, intends to study trypanosomatid peptidases as virulence factors and analyze coinfections of Leishmania spp. with monoxenic trypanosomatids. He holds a degree in Biomedicine and a PhD in Cellular and Molecular Biology. He will work in the Trypanosomatid Biochemistry Laboratory. |

She plans to develop nucleic acid-based and viral vector-based vaccine platforms against the H5N1 influenza virus, as well as a vaccine for the Oropouche virus. |

He aims to understand how metabolism influences virulence, dissemination, and persistence of bacterial infection in the host. |

Her professional project involves developing ecological models and preventing infectious diseases, based on data synthesis and production, pattern assessment, and the creation of empirical models for predicting outbreaks. She will work in the Laboratory of Biology and Parasitology of Wild Mammals in Reservoirs. |

Rafael Oliva, approved for the Purchasing and Bidding Management profile, will work in the Purchasing Department. With degrees in Geography and Law, he taught in the municipality and state for approximately 15 years. He intends to support the work of all scientists to contribute to national sovereignty. |

During the event there was also an exhibition of the movement for the incorporation of surpluses from the F contestiocruz 2023.
The program also included a tribute to José Eudes Nunes de Lima in the project 'in Memoriam – Presences beyond Covid-19'. Eudes graduated in Pedagogy from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ) and completed a postgraduate degree in Pedagogical Neuroscience at Cândido Mendes University. When he passed away in October 2020, he was a student in the Postgraduate Program in Science, Art and Culture in Health at IOC/Fiocroz.
Three members of Eudes' family were present, his wife Tereza and his children Micaela and Lucca Lima, who left messages of affection and gratitude.

“I would like to thank you for this tribute to my father who worked hard for the Fiocruz and always enjoyed being here. I had the opportunity to see him working and how Fiocruz opens doors and paths for people. This tribute is very beautiful,” said Lucca
“I am absolutely certain that he will always be here at Fiocruz. He loved this place. He was very happy to be here,” Tereza extolled.
"My father was always involved in art, culture, and education, and I work in healthcare. As a result, we had very close contact and shared many experiences. His time here was brief, but it was memorable. I'd like to thank you for all the care and support you gave my father," Micaela emphasized.
