Award recognized three outstanding scholarship recipients linked to INOVA IOC

Established in first act of the Jubilee IOC 125 years, the Marco Krieger Medal of Merit in Research and Innovation recognizes results with social impact, technology transfer and networking, in recognition of Marco Aurélio Krieger's career. 

In the debut edition, linked to INOVA Program IOC, three outstanding scholarship holders were recognized (in no particular order): 

— Paolla Beatriz de Almeida Pinto — Project: Covid-19 and dengue: vaccines, coinfections and scientific dissemination; 
— Renata Stavracakis Peixoto — Project: Research and technological development network on bacterial resistance to antimicrobials in the context of One Health; 
— Sidra Ezidio Gonçalves Vasconcellos —Project: From genotype to phenotype: identification of mutations relevant to the pathogenesis of mycobacteria.

Marco Aurélio Krieger (1964–2025) was a biologist at the Federal University of Paraná (UFPR) and a master's/doctorate at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), serving as vice-president of Production and Innovation in Health at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) from 2017 to 2025. He led calls for proposals for the Inova F Programiocruz, championed science during the pandemic and drove diagnostic and vaccine initiatives for the Unified Health System (SUS). He left behind patents, strategic projects, and a legacy of innovation with social impact.
