The journal Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz managed to once again increase its impact factor within the Institute for Scientific Information (ISI) database, according to the Journal of Citation Reports. The ISI is the international body responsible for assessing the relevance and impact of the contribution to published knowledge of indexed scientific journals around the world. The impact factor of a publication is a proportion between the number of times that its articles are cited in a given year, based on the journals indexed by the ISI, and the number of works published by the journal in the two previous years.
In 2006, the impact factor of the Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz had already reached 1,208, well above that recorded for 2005 (0,847). The magazine, which is edited by IOC since 1909 and guarantees free access to its full content, now has an impact factor of 1,225. Recent innovations have contributed to the positive result, such as the creation of the online article submission system, the full availability of all articles published since the first issue of the journal, in 1909, and the association of DOI registration to each published article.
The journal Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz publishes national and foreign scientific articles in the areas of parasitology, microbiology, tropical medicine, as well as basic studies in biochemistry, immunology, cellular and molecular biology, and genetics related to these areas.
