The cooperation between the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/FiocRuz) and the University of Miami (USA) were featured in the 'Workshop Fiocruz–University of Miami', held last Tuesday (March 24), on the F campus.iocruz, in Manguinhos.
The meeting brought together researchers and students involved in the F network.iocruz–Miami to present sub-projects stemming from the call for proposals 'Programa Conhecimento Brasil – Apoio a Projetos em Rede com Pesquisadores Brasileiros no Exterior' (Brazil Knowledge Program – Support for Networked Projects with Brazilian Researchers Abroad), as well as to align strategies, answer questions, and discuss the next steps of the partnership.
Promoted by the National Council for Scientific and Technological Development (CNPq), the call for proposals aims to support research projects that contribute to scientific and technological development and innovation in the country, through cooperation with Brazilian scientists based abroad.

In this context, the initiative stood out for connecting Brazilian scientists working in the United States with groups from... IOC and from Fiocruz, promoting complementary research lines and expanding opportunities for access to international funding.
The network coordinator, Daniel Adesse — researcher at IOC and associate scientist at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute at the University of Miami—highlighted the importance of scientific exchange and access to new technologies for strengthening research in Brazil.
"Exposure to international environments, with scientists from all over the world, and to the most modern technologies allows us to implement new ways of doing science in Brazil, raising the level of research we conduct at F."ioc"ruz," he stated.

During the workshop, seven sub-projects linked to the CNPq call for proposals were presented, addressing topics such as viral hepatitis, Chagas disease, HIV-associated cancer, ocular toxoplasmosis, zoonotic viruses, and mitochondrial dysfunctions associated with infections.
The initiative reinforces F's internationalization strategy.iocThis initiative expands the possibilities for scientific cooperation with Brazilian researchers abroad.
"The idea now is to consolidate partnerships, seek independent funding, and deepen the exchange between researchers and students, with internships, joint courses, and international seminars," he concluded.
