Specialists from the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) participated in the 'International Workshop on Arboviruses', promoted by the Ministry of Health to develop the plan to combat dengue, chikungunya, Zika and Oropouche fever for the summer of 2024/2025.

Held in Brasília, on May 15th and 16th, the event brought together more than one hundred experts from the Ministry of Health, Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), state and municipal health departments and teaching and research institutions.

The discussions were divided into five thematic axes, with the aim of supporting the planning of strategies to combat diseases in the next epidemic cycle, which occurs seasonally in the summer: vector control and new technologies; clinical management and organization of services; emergency preparedness and response; surveillance; and communication and social mobilization.

The working group on vector control and new technologies was attended by the deputy director of Research, Technological Development and Innovation at IOC, Ademir Martins, and the Institute's researchers, Ana Maria Bispo de Filippis, deputy head of the Arbovirus and Hemorrhagic Virus Laboratory, and Nildimar Honório, of the Virus-Host Interactions Laboratory.

In addition to participating in the debates, Ademir presented a lecture on 'Resistance profile of Aedes aegypti – insecticide recommendations for the next 5 years'.

In the working group on communication and social mobilization, the person responsible for the Journalism and Communication Department of IOC, Raquel Aguiar, coordinated the discussions at the request of the Ministry of Health.

The researcher from the Institute's Experimental Medicine and Health Laboratory, Denise Valle, presented the '10 minutes against dengue' strategy, developed by the IOC, based on a partnership between researchers and communication professionals, to share strategies to combat breeding sites for the Aedes mosquito, vector of dengue, chikungunya and Zika.
