Parliamentary amendment guarantees the contribution of BRL 5 million for the acquisition of multi-user equipment

Initiative will strengthen SUS, bringing answers to fight diseases

The technologies available in multi-user equipment at Instituto Oswaldo Cruz (IOC/Fiocruz) will gain reinforcement in 2020.

The acquisition of items, especially in the areas of bioimaging, environment and health promotion, will be made possible by resources from a parliamentary amendment included in the Federal Budget.

The Technological Platforms of the IOC should benefit from the initiative. Presented by federal deputy Paulo Ramos, the parliamentary amendment “Introduction of new technologies at the Oswaldo Cruz Institute to face health emergencies and strengthen research, teaching and extension in health with an impact on the SUS to improve the health of the Brazilian population” was approved with value of BRL 5 million.

The amendment was captured jointly by the researcher from the Laboratory of Innovation in Therapies, Teaching and Bioproducts of the IOC and coordinator of Health Promotion Vice-Presidency for Environment, Care and Health Promotion (VPAAPS/Fiocruz), Luciana Ribeiro Garzoni, and by the director of IOC, José Paulo Gagliardi Leite. The proposal was prepared by researchers from the Institute, including members of the technical chambers of Technological Platforms, Health Promotion and Environment of the IOC.

The equipment that will be acquired will contribute to the training of masters and doctors and to the strengthening of the SUS, bringing answers to the fight against diseases such as dengue, Zika, chikungunya, Chagas disease, malaria, among others.

Since 2015, individual parliamentary amendments are binding. That is, they must be enforced by the federal government. The resource limit is 1,2% of the current net income of the Union and half of the amount must be allocated to health.
