Conceived by researchers from the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz), the game Hiji Sushi was the winner of the digital games category of Contest Rebellions, promoted by the Brazilian Network of Ludic Studies (Rebel). The result of the award was announced on October 23, at the closing of the eighth edition of the Academic Forum of Ludic Studies (Fael 8).

The project was developed by researchers Tânia Zaverucha do Valle, from the Immunomodulation and Protozoology Laboratory, and Gabriel Limaverde Sousa, from the Experimental Schistosomiasis Laboratory, in partnership with Thiago Santos Magalhães, responsible for design and programming. The initiative also had the collaboration of Rafael Augusto Ribeiro and Beatriz de Lima Furtado, responsible for the art.

In the Hiji Sushi game, players need to wash their hands and prepare Japanese dishes ordered by restaurant customers

In a playful way, the game seeks to promote awareness about the importance of hand washing and the correct way to perform the procedure, which is essential to prevent the transmission of diseases. The challenge takes place in the setting of a Japanese cuisine restaurant, where the player must prepare meals quickly, without neglecting frequent and thorough hand washing.

Hiji Sushi can be accessed online at the IOC and lies available for download on the Educare platform, from the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz), free of charge. The project was funded based on the public notice for Open Communication and Educational Resources (REA) of the Vice-Presidency of Education, Information and Communication of the Fiocroz.
