By Max Gomes23/06/2022 - Updated on 05/07/2022

The Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) held on July 5th the third edition of the “International Seminars IOC”. The theme of the meeting was “Ecology, genomics and evolution to promote control of arboviruses”. The event was held in English and broadcast on Channel IOC on Youtube.

Researchers from the Department of Arbovirology at the Bernhard Nocht Institute of Tropical Medicine (BNITM), the largest institution in this field of study in Germany, participated. The presentation and moderation of the event were in charge of two researchers from IOC: Anna Cristina Carvalho, from the Laboratory of Innovations in Therapies, Teaching and Bioproducts and coordinator of the Institutional Cooperation of the IOC; and Rafael Maciel de Freitas, from the Laboratory of Mosquitoes Transmitting Hematozoans, who is currently carrying out research activities at the BNITM.

Among the themes of the program were the transformative effects of new technologies and multidisciplinary collaborations in virus research, the use of Wolbachia bacteria to mitigate the transmission of arboviruses and the challenges for a near real-time tool in the response against mosquito vector diseases.

Due to image rights, the organizers requested that the meeting not be publicly available on YouTube after its broadcast.
