International projection: researchers from IOC stand out in the ranking of the most influential scientists

Among the highlights, two specialists appear in the top 10 in the national ranking in two areas of knowledge

The Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) reaffirms its international prominence with 19 researchers highlighted in the global ranking of the Research.com portal, which lists the 100 most influential scientists in the world.

The ranking presents the main experts in 20 areas of knowledge and researchers from IOC appear in five of them: 'Animal and Veterinary Science', 'Biology and Biochemistry', 'Immunology', 'Medicine' and 'Microbiology'.

Among the Institute's highlights, two researchers stand out for appearing in more than one area of the ranking and for being among the 10 most influential scientists in Brazil in at least one category:

• Patrícia Bozza was recognized in Immunology (6th place in Brazil) and also in Medicine (32nd place in Brazil)
• Ana Maria Jansen appears among the main names in both Animal and Veterinary Science (8th place in Brazil) and Microbiology (35th place in Brazil)

The list has been compiled since 2019 by Stanford University Professor John Ioannidis. The main criterion used is the c-score, an index that considers scientific impact by citations, taking into account the author's position in the articles (sole author, first author, or last author), as well as the number of co-authors. The database is hosted in the Elsevier repository (Mendeley Data Repository) and is publicly accessible.

The complete survey, with rankings by area of knowledge, institutions and countries, is available on the portal 'Research.com'.
