Project of IOC is the basis for the Federal Government's campaign against dengue

'10 minutes against Aedes' initiative was designed based on scientific knowledge about the vector

Conceived by the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz), the project '10 Minutes Against Aedes' is the basis of the Federal Government's new campaign against dengue.

On the 6th, the Ministry of Health launched the '10 minutes against dengue' action, which proposes that the population dedicate 10 minutes a week to combat mosquito outbreaks Aedes aegytpi, transmitter of dengue, Zika and chikungunya.

The campaign has the collaboration of artists, athletes and digital influencers, among others, who voluntarily participate in the initiative.

State ministers also mobilized to combat the vector in a video posted on the country's social media Federal government and Ministry of Health

The concept of the '10 minutes against Aedes' project was developed by researchers in partnership with communications professionals from the Institute.

The proposal considers that the mosquito that transmits dengue, Zika and chikungunya lives and reproduces mainly in and around our homes.

The Aedes life cycle, from egg to adult mosquito, takes 7 to 10 days. Therefore, weekly cleaning of breeding sites is capable of stopping the spread of the vector.

To guide the population in combating the insect, experts created a checking guide that points out common breeding sites in the domestic environment, which can be inspected in just 10 minutes (click here).

The strategy was inspired by an action taken in Singapore. In 2005, the Asian country managed to interrupt the peak of a dengue epidemic with weekly actions by the population inside their homes.
