According to the journal's executive editor, Hikmat Zein, the presence in PubMed Central helps to increase the journal's recognition in the scientific community. “Having our articles on PubMed, which publishes internationally renowned publications, means that Memórias has greater visibility abroad. We went up another step”, she celebrates.
To achieve this goal, the journal had to follow a series of steps that mainly included adapting the file formats to meet the requirements of the database. “The submission process took about a year and a half to complete and went through phases such as evaluating the scientific and technical quality of the files to verify compliance with the required technical requirements”, explained Hikmat.
The journal, which has free access, can also be consulted in other international databases, including SciELO, Journal Citation Report - ISI Web of Knowledge, Scimage, Scopus e Bioline International.
The magazine's researcher and editor, Ricardo Lourenço, commented on the next steps: “Having our material available on PubMed was one of our main goals. The goal now is to try to obtain resources to further expand this international image of Memórias in countries in Asia, Europe and Latin America, which work with tropical diseases and parasites”, said the expert.
Created in 1909, the journal Memórias do Instituto Oswaldo Cruz is one of the oldest scientific journals in Latin America. Disseminator of national and foreign articles in the area of biomedical sciences, it has been consolidating itself as one of the most prestigious publications in tropical medicine, parasitology, microbiology, epidemiology, medical entomology and biomedicine, reaching a high impact value. The journal offers the possibility of online submission of articles and has the DOI system, an international identifier of scientific articles that gives more credibility to its content. All material published on its pages can be accessed free of charge through the website and the historical collection of the publication is also available free of charge on the internet, digitized, since the first edition.
