Parasite spillover modeling will be the theme of an international symposium on January 29th. Organized by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid with support from the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) – through the Postgraduate Program Strict sensu in Biodiversity and Health –, the 'Symposium Adaptive Networks for Parasite Spillover' will feature lectures by experts from Brazil, Spain and Switzerland.
In total, there will be nine presentations by researchers from Fiocruz, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, Universidad Carlos III, Universidade Federal do Paraná, Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Universidad de Zaragoza, Universidade de São Paulo and University of Zurich.
Among the topics of the lectures are “Ecology of disease meta-communities: moving from the diluting effect to diluting landscapes”, “Interaction networks between birds and malaria” and “Network dynamics in ecology and evolution”.
The symposium will be hosted by the Universidad Complutense de Madrid, with online broadcast via website and through the channel Youtube from the Faculty of Biological Sciences. The lectures will be presented in English.
The activities will take place between 6:30 am and 12:15 pm, Brasília time. Check out the full schedule at event website.
Funded by the Serrapilheira Institute, the symposium open to the public marks the first day of the ‘Workshop Adaptive Networks for Parasite Spillover’.
The activities are part of the project ‘Ecology of disease meta-communities: moving from the diluting effect to diluting landscapes’, selected in a Serrapilheira notice.
The project is coordinated by the researcher from the Laboratory of Biology and Parasitology of Wild Mammals Reservoirs of the IOC, Cecília Andreazzi, who organizes the symposium together with Gisele Winck and Ana Paula Lula Costa, post-doctoral fellows from the same Laboratory.
The event is supported by the International Platform for Science, Technology and Innovation in Health (PICTIS).
