
On May 25, 2025, the Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) will turn 125 years old, celebrating its Silver Secular Jubilee. The date, shared with the Fiocruz, marks the emergence of a pioneering institution in Brazil and highlights decades of work in favor of science, health and life.
Promoted to celebrate this milestone, the 1st act of the 'Symposium IOC Jubilee 125 years' comes to an end this Friday, the 23rd, with a dive into the institutional trajectory. The event will begin with a lecture by the director of IOC, Tania Cremonini de Araujo-Jorge, with the theme '125 Years of IOC: where we come from and where we are'. Then, there will be sessions of tributes, highlights, reports and launches of the Jubilee, ending with a musical presentation by the TriloGils project.
The activities take place in person, starting at 9 am, in the Emmanuel Dias Auditorium of the Arthur Neiva Pavilion, on campus Fiocruz Manguinhos (Av. Brazil 4.365, Rio de Janeiro).

This year, the Institute's traditional Research and Innovation Symposium, which is now in its 8th edition, is associated with the anniversary commemorative Symposium.
The event started on Tuesday, 20th, with a keynote speech by the Secretary of Science and Technology of the city of Rio de Janeiro and professor at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), Tatiana Roque, on science and technology policies. In the afternoon, the lectures addressed vaccine development, nanotechnology and artificial intelligence.
Activities continued on Wednesday, 21st, with panels on innovation and entrepreneurship in science and technology institutions (ICTs) and a webinar on citizen science and science education. There were also presentations of projects from the IOC submitted to the Inova Empreendedorismo call for proposals, from the Inova F Programiocruz. Throughout the event, videos related to the Inova Program were shown IOC.
On Thursday, the 22nd, the program began with a panel on the scenario of arboviruses in Brazil and product launches from the Arboalvo research project. In the afternoon, the book 'Antimicrobial-resistant superbacteria' was launched.
