In 1905, Oswaldo Cruz began the first efforts to build what he envisioned to be a symbol of Science and Public Health in Brazil.
Main building of the Núcleo Arquitetônico Histórico (NAHM) of Manguinhos, the Moorish Castle of Fiocruz was built in 1918 on a hill in the old farm of Manguinhos, facing Guanabara Bay, to replace the old and improvised facilities of the Instituto Seroterápico Federal, created on May 25, 1900.
Today, on the banks of Avenida Brasil, in the city of Rio de Janeiro, the centenary building proves to have fulfilled the mission desired by the patron of the Fiocroz. Check below the honors of the IOC to the highest icon of the Institute and the Fiocroz.
