The Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fioc(ruz) held, this Wednesday (February 4th), the 1st Workshop on One Health and Climate Emergencies applied to Schistosomiasis. The international event presented research developed in the area, highlighting actions carried out in partnership between the Laboratory for Evaluation and Promotion of Environmental Health of IOC and the Université de Perpignan (France).

In her speech, Norma emphasized the alignment of the initiative with the institutional mission.
"This is an event that fulfills the broader mission of IOC and from Fioc"The project aims to integrate research, teaching, and outreach. It envisions a series of actions within the strategy of internationalizing education," he commented.
Clélia highlighted the career path of the French researcher and the importance of the training offered by the Institute.

In November 2025, the Laboratory for Assessment and Promotion of Environmental Health and the University of Perpignan signed a Memorandum of Understanding, an instrument that establishes the basis for cooperation between the institutions, focusing on joint research actions.
During the workshop, the first Work Plan was signed. The document outlines a series of actions, such as the creation of a joint international laboratory and the transfer of technologies focused on the study of aquatic systems influenced by climate change.
Activities related to environmental and climate education are also planned to promote health, along with professional training courses in global planetary health.
After the signing, Ronaldo presented the main lines of research he is developing at the University of Perpignan. Among the macro-themes are the effects of heat waves and droughts, the introduction of new pathogens and vectors, and the impact of chemical pollution on aquatic environments.

In the afternoon, the main research lines of the Laboratory for Assessment and Promotion of Environmental Health were presented. IOC In partnership with the Perpignan laboratory. Participants included Vanessa Valladares, Gabriela Friani, Julia Araújo, and Lorena Soares.
At the end of the presentations, the space was opened for discussion and exploration of new institutional partnerships.
