The Oswaldo Cruz Institute (IOC/Fiocruz) is committed to producing relevant scientific knowledge for Brazil and contributing to global health. For this, it is dedicated to the study of a wide range of health issues and uses the most varied approaches.
The Research Laboratories generate knowledge about various aspects of a wide range of infectious diseases – AIDS, tuberculosis, Covid-19, malaria, yellow fever, dengue, Zika, Chagas disease, leishmaniasis, leptospirosis, hepatitis, leprosy, meningitis, among others. others – and from chronic-degenerative diseases, such as muscular dystrophy and behavioral disorders.
The Institute also works in environmental studies, in drug prospecting and in the development of new vaccines, diagnostic methods and therapeutic strategies, always with the aim of responding to the challenges of Brazilian public health.
